Enrichment

We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities which aim to develop our students’ transferable skills, knowledge and understanding beyond the classroom.

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

Weekly PSHE sessions play a vital role in supporting students’ holistic development beyond academic pursuits, particularly during Key Stage 5. By focusing on the core themes of Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), and Living in the Wider World, these sessions equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to thrive in the complex challenges of adult life.

Here's how these themes can benefit students as they transition into the next phase of their lives:

  1. Health and Wellbeing is a fundamental aspect of a student's overall development. By addressing both physical and mental health, PSHE sessions empower students to manage the pressures of exams, university applications, and future planning. Topics such as stress management techniques, mental health awareness, physical wellness strategies, and healthy lifestyle choices are essential in promoting students' overall well-being. This theme addresses both physical and mental health, which is crucial as students navigate the pressures of exams, university applications, and future planning. Topics might include managing stress, understanding mental health resources, maintaining physical wellness, and learning healthy lifestyle choices.

  2. Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) plays a vital role in the holistic development of young people. By providing a safe and supportive environment to discuss sensitive topics, RSE empowers students to make informed decisions, respect boundaries, and develop healthy relationships. Topics such as consent, personal values, and online safety are crucial in fostering responsible attitudes and behaviours.

  3. Living in the Wider World equips students with the essential life skills needed to thrive beyond the classroom. By exploring topics such as personal finance, career planning, digital literacy, and citizenship, students develop the practical knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of adult life. Understanding budgeting, credit, and employability skills empowers students to make informed financial decisions and pursue their career goals with confidence. Living in the Wider World.

Enrichment Programme

The Year 12 Enrichment Programme, a compulsory weekly offering, is designed to broaden students' horizons and develop essential skills. This diverse programme provides opportunities for students to engage in a range of activities, including:

  • Entrepreneurial Development:

Tycoon Enterprise Competition is an international business competition for students, run by the Peter Jones Foundation, where student teams write a business plan, apply for a start-up loan, and trade in a live market environment.

  • Leadership and Community Service:

Sports Leaders is a recognised qualification for students with a passion for physical activity and teamwork. This award offers valuable opportunities to develop essential skills. By organising events, coaching peers and managing groups, students gain practical experience in communication, leadership, and motivation.

  • Volunteering at a local primary school:  QPCS students work with class teachers to support students in lessons. This is an opportunity for those looking to work with children/education in the future or to build other skills such as confidence and organisation.
  • Language Support: Sixth form students support EAL students with their English and other subjects. Our sixth form students learn valuable interpersonal students by interacting with teachers and students.
  • Creative Pursuits:

Shout – School Digital Magazine – Shout showcases student achievements, creative writing, artwork, school news, and community projects. Students collaborate to write, edit, film and produce this website and learn valuable skills in the media and publishing space.

  • Extended Project Qualification: Students also have the option to study for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which is an A-level standard standalone qualification designed to extend and develop students’ abilities beyond the A-level syllabus and prepare them for university or their future career. An EPQ is equivalent to an AS Level qualification and is recognised by universities and employers.

By participating in these activities, students gain valuable real-world skills, develop personal interests, and prepare for future success.

Charity Work

At QPCS, we encourage our students to become active citizens and make a positive impact on their community. Through participation in charitable activities, students develop empathy, responsibility, and valuable skills in event planning, teamwork, and leadership.

To further foster a culture of giving back, we annually appoint a Charity Ambassador. This student-led role empowers an individual to oversee fundraising initiatives, introduce innovative ideas, and inspire their peers. By taking on this responsibility, students gain practical experience in leadership, decision-making, and delegation, while cultivating a sense of personal fulfilment through their contributions to charitable causes.

Culture

We regularly organise cultural outings to local theatres, museums, and exhibitions, immersing our students in the rich cultural tapestry of London. Additionally, we host an annual Culture Day to celebrate the diverse community within our school. This event fosters intercultural understanding and appreciation, promoting a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

Creative Arts

Our school's vibrant arts program offers a range of opportunities for students to explore their creative talents. From performing in major productions like Macbeth, Les Misérables, and Frozen to contributing behind the scenes, students gain invaluable experience and develop essential skills. Our annual school production, currently featuring Frozen, showcases the dedication and talent of our students, regardless of their A-Level choices.

In addition to our productions, students can participate in a variety of musical extracurricular activities, including the renowned annual winter and summer concerts, which showcase exceptional talent. Instrumental lessons and orchestra further enrich the musical experience, fostering a love of music and providing a platform for students to share their passion with the school community.

Sport

The school's extensive sports facilities, including a state-of-the-art 3G pitch, large grass pitches, and a well-equipped indoor sports hall and gymnasium, provide ample opportunities for year-round sporting activities. Our dedicated team of PE teachers offers a diverse range of sports teams for sixth-form students, who have consistently achieved success in both national and local competitions.

Our sixth-form boys' and girls' football teams are highly competitive, regularly dominating the Brent League. The school also boasts strong teams in netball, basketball, athletics, and badminton, with a proud history of sporting success. This success is celebrated at our annual Sports Awards Evening where invited alumni, who have progressed into the sporting world, return to QPCS to inspire current students. Sixth-form students actively contribute to the school community by volunteering as coaches and mentors for lower-school sports clubs. Additionally, the annual winter ski trip to France offers students of all ages a thrilling adventure.
