We hold our Open Evening for Year 6 parents, carers and students in September. For more information, please view our Open Events & Tours page.
Moving from a smaller primary school to a large secondary school can be a big step, and we understand that parents, carers and students may have concerns. At QPCS, we work diligently to ensure a seamless and supportive transition, both academically and socially, so that every Year 7 student feels welcomed, confident, and ready to thrive.
During the Summer Term the Head of Year 7 visits all of our main partner primary schools. They engage directly with Year 6 teachers to gather information and speak with the students. Every incoming Year 6 student is also offered a 'settling in' interview with their parent or carer. All information shared is used to create balanced and supportive Year 7 tutor groups.
We ensure new students are fully prepared before September begins. Towards the end of the Summer Term, we invite all new students to our Transition Day, where they explore the school, meet key staff, and experience a range of 'proper' secondary school lessons.
We also host a New Parents' Evening in July to answer any remaining questions and resolve any concerns before the summer holidays. Students’ first day in September is dedicated exclusively to Year 7 and our trained 'Friendly Faces' Team (selected Year 8s). These older students act as guides and mentors, providing orientation and support that continues throughout the entire first academic year.
Academically, we maintain strong links with our partner primary schools, ensure the academic bridge from Year 6 to Year 7 is robust and well-planned.
