New technologies have become integral to the lives of children and young people in today’s society, both within schools and in their lives outside school. The internet and other digital information and communications technologies are powerful tools, which open up new opportunities for everyone. These technologies can stimulate discussion, promote creativity and stimulate awareness of context to promote effective learning.
However, these technologies must be used appropriately. There is plenty of evidence that they are often used inappropriately, and it is the school’s view that children should be guided in the use of technology at home as well as at school. Students’ use of school technology is strictly monitored, but they have access to a wide range of technologies elsewhere. The school has therefore begun a major initiative to guide children towards appropriate use of the technology they have access to, and expect that parents support this at home.
